Looking for a job...is a job!

Updated: May 13, 2022

Living through COVID-19 has surely changed how we work and has created so many job opportunities as people view work much differently now. Currently, people are not just concerned about salary but the amenities of work, balancing work with life, and safety.

Have a plan.

If you find yourself searching for a new position, be sure to have a plan and be consistent with your search. You must schedule time either daily or a few times a week and be purposeful about your job search. Keep a log of what you've applied for, the date you applied, capture if you have gotten a response from the potential employer, and any other notes that you may need. By doing this, when companies call for interviews, you will know exactly who you are speaking with and for which position.

Be encouraged.

While you are tracking, you will also be able to keep an eye on how many responses you are getting. If you notice that you've applied for several positions and are not receiving many or no responses, it is time to take a deeper look at what you're doing; are you applying for the correct positions? Do your skills align closely with what you're applying for? Take inventory of what you've been doing and be willing to take a break and regroup to begin your search again.

Surround yourself with encouragers and positivity.

Make sure that you have a great circle of supportive and honest people who can keep you encouraged and focused on your job search. You will need someone to talk with should you begin to feel overwhelmed and who will be truthful with you in a kind and loving way. Don't be afraid to ask for help if needed. Take a small break if needed...but don't give up!
